Mitzvah Day 2017
Mitzvah day at our joint venture with the Muslim orgnaisation Himmah, Salaam Shalom kitchen.
Syrian Refugee families were welcomed into the Synagogue along with children from other Muslim Communities for a morning of activities, starting with ice breaking games for the children to get to know each other.
The children then formed groups and rotated around 4 activities:
Making Christmas cards to give residents at a local care home, decorating biscuits for the Framework homeless shelters in Nottingham, packing bags of sweets to give to a children's charity, and making a massive Mitzvah Day banner. We welcomed parents into the synagogue and spent the morning getting to know each other over many cups of coffee and biscuits.
At the end of the morning all the refugee children received parting gifts of toys (generously donated). It was a happy event with around 80 children and parents of different faiths coming together. We all had a wonderful time getting to know each other, had fun, and helped make a better future for Nottingham. A good time was had by all! Oh, and it was also history in the making.
